Suspicious Activity Prompts Mahama to Investigate 2 Foreign Flights

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered comprehensive investigations into two aircraft that landed in Accra in March and subsequently departed for Gran Canaria, Spain, on March 25.

This is due to the NPP Minority’s suspicions of the aircraft’s involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering. The investigations will be conducted by the National Security and relevant authorities.

Minority Claims
During a press conference, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, John Ntim Fordjour, raised concerns regarding an air ambulance — Air MED flight L823 AM —which landed at the Kotoka International Airport on March 20.

The aircraft remained for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

Additionally, on March 2, an Antonov 12B private jet also arrived and departed the same day as the air ambulance, further fueling suspicions.

Thorough Investigations
On the evening of March 1, President Mahama took to social media to address the Minority’s concerns.

He stated, “The government takes all allegations seriously, and to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, I have directed all relevant investigative agencies—including the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Police CID, the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and the National Security Coordinator—to collaborate fully with the honorable member of parliament. This collaboration will ensure that all necessary information is provided to investigate the allegations and take appropriate actions to expose any drug dealing.”

He emphasized, “We will maintain a zero tolerance policy against using Ghana as a transit point or final destination for drugs or drug trafficking. The NIB made a high-profile bust of drugs last week, with a street value of $350 million.”
