First-Ever Ghana Beauty & Wellness Report Takes Shape

Makeup Ghana, organizers of the Ghana Beauty Awards, has partnered with the University of Ghana’s College of Humanities to develop the inaugural Ghana Beauty & Wellness Report.

The Report is the first comprehensive, evidence-based assessment of the sector.

A stakeholder workshop held on Thursday September 4, 2026 at the West African Genetic Medicine Centre in Accra, brought together government agencies, regulators, academia, financial institutions, and industry players to shape the landmark publication.

The Report addresses a long-standing gap in reliable industry data, examining economic contribution, employment, skills development, consumer trends, regulation, finance, and investment opportunities.

The engagement forms part of activities marking the 10th Ghana Beauty Awards under the theme “10 Years of Impact: The Legacy Era.”

Credible data
Speaking at the workshop, Makeup Ghana Founder & CEO Lady Rebecca Donkor stressed the need to move from anecdotal narratives to credible data. “For years, we have spoken about the size and potential of this industry. This Report is about giving those conversations an evidence base,” she said.

Providing academic leadership is Professor Sheena Lovia Boateng, who chairs a Steering Committee reflecting the sector’s multidisciplinary nature.

Members include: Ms. Nana Efua Tweneboah-Boateng (Bank of Ghana), Mrs. Marie-Noelle Yakubu (Marie Noelle Spa), Ms. Valerie Lawson (Makeup Artist), Ms. Violet Awo Amoabeng (Skin Gourmet), Ms. Siran Mahama (Reviv Ghana), Dr. Sandra Esi Odonkor (Everything Beauty GH), Ms. Tina Yirenkyi (GHABA), and Mr. Stephan Eyeson (Safiyo AI and Data on Africa). The Committee will guide the research framework, identify priorities, and ensure the Report is grounded in credible data and diverse perspectives.

Priority areas
Workshop participants identified key priority areas, including industry size and structure, economic impact, business profiles, training and professionalisation, standards and certification, access to finance, local manufacturing, consumer behaviour, and policy recommendations for sustainable growth.

Following the workshop, the research team will refine the framework, collect data, and conduct stakeholder consultations.

Invitation
Makeup Ghana invited businesses, institutions, and development partners to support the Report’s completion through sponsorship, partnerships, or data contributions, emphasizing that success depends on collective commitment to documenting and strengthening the industry.
