Bawku Conflict Resolution in Sight, Asantehene Assures with Divine Optimism

I am committed to pursuing mediation for the Bawku conflict until lasting peace is achieved, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has assured.

During a courtesy call on him by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on May 9, Otumfuo expressed his desire to see enduring peace in Bawku, stating, “By the grace of God, we will get there.”

Mediation

Regarding the mediation process, the Asantehene briefed the IGP on recent meetings held in Kumasi with representatives from the conflict factions, the Kusasis and Mamprusis.

He noted, “We met last week and will meet again for another round of talks. All parties were present with their teams.”

“I have been telling the youth that I do not want any form of violence. They should exercise patience as we work towards a peaceful resolution,” he stated.

He assured the public that, once all is resolved, the outcome will be made clear.

“I assure you that I will continue with the mediation efforts, and the police and other security agencies will have peace of mind to carry out their duties,” he told the IGP.

Background

The IGP, accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), visited the Manhyia Palace to formally introduce himself to Otumfuo.

During this visit, they also briefed the Asantehene on the security situation in the Ashanti Region and sought his blessing for their work.
