The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has highly commended B5 Plus Company Limited, a steel manufacturing giant, for its significant contribution to the nation’s development.
The Commissioner of the GRA’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, made the commendation when the company presented a GH¢400 million tax cheque to the Authority. He described the company’s tax compliance as impressive and encouraged other businesses and individuals to follow its example.
Industrial growth
B5 Plus, chaired by Mukesh Thakwani, operates in Ghana’s iron and steel manufacturing sector and has recorded remarkable performance since its inception. The company’s contribution underscores how industrial activity can drive national development through the revenue it generates for the state.
Importance
Dr. Yamborigya remarked: “The taxes paid by B5 Plus are not simply figures on a tax statement. They represent a contribution towards the provision of roads, schools, hospitals, security, social interventions, and other public services that benefit all of us. Your compliance is your contribution. Your contribution is part of Ghana’s development.”
He also stressed the government’s responsibility to account for the resources entrusted to it.
Broader tax compliance
Dr. Yamborigya urged taxpayers to maintain proper records, file accurate returns on time, and pay the correct taxes. He further appealed to consumers to help reduce revenue leakage by requesting VAT invoices for applicable purchases.
He argued that a stronger domestic revenue base is essential to sustaining development and reducing dependence on borrowing and external assistance.
Employer
B5 Plus is already one of Ghana’s largest private-sector employers and operates West Africa’s largest prefabrication line. Notably, Ghana’s steel industry currently operates at less than 50% capacity, a gap that represents unrealized jobs, value, and revenue.
