Government to Uphold IP Rights, Sam George Tells Ademoye

Hon. Sam George, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, has weighed in on the piracy row involving Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye and some Ghanaian TV stations.

The controversy began when Ghanaian media personality and plus-size advocate Miz Debbie posted a video defending the unauthorized airing of Bimbo’s movies, which Bimbo then reposted, tagging both Sam George and Kafui Danku CEO of National Film Authority. In her caption, she accused Miz Debbie of “supporting theft” and called on authorities to act.

Sam George responded publicly, assuring Bimbo that her concerns were valid and would be addressed. “@bimboademoye, my attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my Colleague Minister responsible for overseeing television content. however wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same. I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit.” he wrote.
