Infighting Doomed NPP in 2024 Elections, Bawumia States

Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has identified internal party attacks as a significant reason for the NPP’s defeat in the last general elections.

Speaking at the start of the National Thank You Tour in the Western Region on Saturday, April 26, he explained that some party members publicly criticized both the party and the government.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) then used these comments against the NPP in a series of media advertisements. “They used the words against us, and if the attacks are coming from your own members, you can imagine the impact,” he noted.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the NPP paid a heavy price for these self-inflicted internal divisions.

Unity is key
He stressed that unity is crucial for achieving collective success, acknowledging that internal conflicts weakened the party’s campaign efforts. “Unity is fundamental in any group endeavor, but during the 2024 elections, we struggled with internal challenges,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Accompanying him were key party figures, including National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, and other senior members of the National Executive Committee.
