Military Engineers to resolve dangers faced by pupils to access school at Asuokow – Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has announced that engineers from the Ghana Armed Forces have visited the Asuokow community in the Eastern Region to assess the challenges faced by schoolchildren who are forced to cross a dangerous water body to access education.

This development follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to address the issue as a matter of urgency.

In a Facebook post on Monday, 10th February, Dr Omane Boamah assured the public that the government is committed to finding a lasting solution to the problem.

“Engineers of the Ghana Armed Forces have already visited Asuokow community (where young school children have to cross this water body to access school) in the Eastern Region,” he stated.

The Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to resolving the issue, emphasising that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the children and the entire community.

“As President John Dramani Mahama assured Ghanaians, we’re working to permanently and urgently resolve the challenge the people and the schoolchildren of Asuokow are facing,” he added.

The visit by the military engineers marks the beginning of efforts to provide a safer alternative for the schoolchildren, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving access to education and protecting vulnerable communities.
