Three killed in reprisal attack in Wulugu amid escalating Bawku conflict

Three people were killed in Wulugu, North East Region, in an attack that police suspect is linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict.

The deceased, all men, were traveling on a bus from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to Garu in the Upper East Region.

According to police sources, the bus developed a fault, and as efforts were being made to fix it, armed assailants arrived on motorbikes and set it ablaze. The attackers then pursued the fleeing passengers and fatally shot three on the spot.

The surviving passengers were rescued and transported by security personnel to Bolgatanga. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Upper East Regional Hospital Morgue for identification and autopsy.

A joint police-military team has since restored calm, and investigations are ongoing.
