Today: Asantehene Reopens Bawku Mediation Efforts

Barring any unforeseen issues, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is set to reconvene the Bawku mediation at the Manhyia Palace today.

The peace talks resume amid rising tensions in the conflict area which has resulted in multiple fatalities, including the deaths of two police officers.

On April 15, the Manhyia Palace announced that, as agreed with the parties involved in the conflict, the chief mediator, Otumfuo, will conduct mediation sessions from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

This announcement followed a recent assurance from President John Dramani Mahama that the peace process led by the Asantehene would continue as part of national efforts to restore calm in the troubled region. The need for the resumption of talks arose after a recent resurgence of the conflict.

The mediation sessions are expected to involve key leaders from the conflicting factions and other relevant stakeholders.
