We lost because Ghanaians were displeased with us – Bantama MP

The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso Boakye, has attributed the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) victory in the December 7 2024 elections to widespread dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasised that NDC’s success in the December 7 polls was not solely due to its campaign efforts, but also a reflection of the people’s discontent with the NPP’s leadership.

He sees the outcome of the results as an advice from Ghanaians to the NPP.

“We have to take a cue from this precedent to know that the 2024 election was not won just by the campaign of the NDC alone but the displeasure of many Ghanaians who did not see leadership from NPP,” he stated during an interaction with journalists in Kumasi on February 11.

He called on NPP Members and leadership to draw lessons from the outcome of the 2024 election, highlighting a concerning trend of voter apathy.

He observed that a significant portion of Ghanaians refrained from voting, indicating a waning interest in politics.

“If you look at the election this time around, the voter apathy has gone up. In my constituency, Bantama, more than 30,000 people did not vote.” he stated.

“Many Ghanaians didn’t vote. They are not interested in politics anymore,” Mr Asenso-Boakye lamented.

His concerns point to a growing disillusionment among the electorate, which could have broader impact on political engagement in Ghana’s democratic processes.
