A Strategic Boycott by the Minority?

The adhoc committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to investigate the chaos that erupted during the recent ministerial vetting has concluded its proceedings.

However, a notable absence at the final sitting has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the probe.

Speaking on Hot Edition with Beatrice Adu, political analyst Dr. Samuel Afriyie weighed in on the absence of the Minority, describing it as a calculated political move rather than mere reluctance.

“In politics, not showing up is a strategy to have your way, we can call it political gymnastics,” Dr. Afriyie asserted, suggesting that the Minority’s decision to boycott the committee meeting could be a deliberate tactic to influence the outcome of the investigation.

The Minority’s absence from the meeting fuels speculation about their stance on the committee’s work. Some observers argue that their non-participation could undermine the credibility of the investigation, while others believe it strengthens their political position by highlighting perceived biases in the process.

“The Minority have nothing to lose,” Dr. Afriyie added, implying that their absence could serve as a way to avoid legitimizing a process they might see as flawed or unfavorable to their interests.

As the committee concludes its probe, questions remain about whether it has achieved its intended goal of ensuring accountability and restoring order in parliamentary proceedings.

The absence of key stakeholders, particularly the Minority, raises doubts about whether the investigation will yield a balanced and conclusive outcome.

The development adds another layer to the ongoing political tension in Parliament, leaving many to wonder if the committee’s work will bring resolution or further deepen divisions within the legislative body.
