A Political Analyst, Dr. Samuel Afriyie has suggested that government must provide reasons to persons whose appointments and recruitments have been annulled as to why such action was taken.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, Wednesday, February 12, Dr. Afriyie said the victims may not necessarily be members of the New Patriotic Party but equally qualified persons, hence the need for a justification of their appointments and recruitments by government.
Dr. Afriyie believes that an outright annulment without any justification is not the right approach.
“I believe the government could have used a right approach by justifying. It’s a government for all of us. You cannot say you have just annulled someone’s appointment without giving reason.
“Maybe you have to give reason to all these. I think they may have some data of all these appointments and they can just send them emails, message to them that because of these reasons and that we cannot engage you and that can be in a reputable way of trying to annul someone’s appointment.
“Even if it’s political, it may not just be NPP members because some of these politicians they help each other. It could be some other political parties,” he stated.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah under the orders of President Mahama has directed all heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
This is contained in a circular sighted by 3news.com dated February 10, 2025, and addressed to all Heads of Government Institutions.
“Consistent with Government pronouncement in relation to near end of tenure appointments and recruitments, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December, 2024 are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles,” Mr Debrah wrote.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, has criticised the decision by President Mahama.
He wants government to reverse the decision as persons who received appointments after December 7, 2024, are not second-class citizens, they have a right to work, just like everyone else.
