Omane Boamah to Critics: No Issue with Vice President’s Private Jet

Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah has confirmed that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang returned to the country from her medical leave in London aboard a chartered flight.

He explained that the Vice President flew on a private jet because the presidential jet is currently faulty and unfit for use.

The government has faced heavy criticism from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after it was revealed that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, returned home using a private jet.

This criticism comes in light of the fact that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while in opposition, had heavily criticized President Akufo-Addo for using a private jet during some of his foreign travels.

Omane Boamah’s Position

In a Facebook post, Dr. Omane Boamah clarified his position, stating that the Akufo-Addo administration has let the presidential jet fall into disrepair.

“The presidential jet has been in the ‘hospital’ abroad for maintenance, repair, and overhaul, and may be put in fairly usable state after three months of ‘therapy.’ The presidential jet is currently unfit for use.”
