One dead, six injured in highway gun attack in Binduri

One person has been confirmed dead, and six others have sustained gunshot wounds after gunmen ambushed two commercial buses in Binduri, near Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The buses, which were transporting students and traders from Bawku to Bolgatanga under heavy military escort, came under attack by an unidentified armed gang at Bazua.

The gunmen opened fire sporadically, injuring seven occupants. The injured were transported to an undisclosed health center for treatment, but one of the victims succumbed to his injuries.

Though the motive behind the attack remains unclear, it is believed to be linked to the brutal killing of a woman and her two children in their home at Tinsongo by unidentified gunmen on Sunday dawn.

Reports indicate that the gunmen ransacked the house in search of the woman’s husband. However, after failing to locate him, they killed his family instead.

Calm has since been restored as security agencies, including the Police and Military, have taken control of the town.

The latest killings bring the total number of deaths since the conflict resurfaced in October 2024 to 46.

The attacks have renewed calls from residents urging state security agencies to intensify patrols, especially along the highways.
