President Mahama Drops Vice President from EMT, Takes Direct Control

President John Dramani Mahama is now the head of the Economic Management Team (EMT) of the government. The EMT is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the country’s economic policies and programmes.

Convention
While there is no established law that designates the Vice President as the chair of the EMT, it is customary for the country’s second-in-command to lead the team.

In this instance, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang would typically be expected to take the role. However, the President has decided to drop her from this position.

Veep’s role
Instead, the President has assigned the Vice President responsibilities in the areas of education, health, gender, and social protection.

A source informed The Thunder that President Mahama has consistently stated since the election campaign that he would lead the EMT due to the precarious state of the economy.
