Tensions Escalate as Kusasi Youth Bar MPs from Entering Bawku

The Kusasi Youth in Bawku have barred all six Members of Parliament (MPs) representing constituencies in the Bawku enclave from entering their jurisdictions, warning that any attempt to do so would be life-threatening.

At a press conference in Bawku, the group’s president, Abugri Haruna, declared, “We will not tolerate your presence in our kingdom. Disregard our directive at your own peril.”

Political exploitation
The youth accused President John Mahama and local MPs, including Mahama Ayariga, of exploiting the Bawku conflict for political gain, only to neglect the Kusasi people after securing victory in the 2024 elections. “You can no longer deceive us,” they warned.

Peace and justice
To restore lasting peace, the Kusasi Youth outlined key demands:

  • The immediate arrest of Seidu Abagre, whom they labeled an “imposter Bawku Naba.”
  • An independent international investigation into the killings in Bawku.

Emphasizing their stance, they stated, “We are not advocating for war—we are demanding justice, dignity, and the right to life.”
